This past week has been a challenge to say the least. I have felt as though I have been pulled in 500 different directions. LOL
I am so excited about going back to 6th grade, but I have not taught reading/ELA in three years. With the new guidebooks that the state has created, I have been attending workshops and expanding my knowledge. I also have to finish moving my classroom.
I let my due date for a paper pass me up this week. I would have really came down on my students for this if they had of forgotten a due date. I guess being back in class myself has reminded me that things do happen and intentions are not always bad. Hopefully this next week will slow down and I can relax. My grand babies are calling my name! 🙂
After spending the past week exploring different sites, I have found that there are so many forms of technology available to use for my classroom. I really want to change things up this year especially since I am going back to 6th grade!!!! I have been debating on creating a classroom blog or using another site for students to stay in contact with each other via the web.
I was very excited about trying a classroom blog where each of my students would create their own blog page, but was quickly let down when it was suggested that the students would find a way to post inappropriate things. I still want to try it, I just hope that we do not have any issues with inappropriate material.
Any information on how to incorporate new ideas into my reading class would be greatly appreciated.
So, I have really been pushed to step out of my comfort zone with this technology class. I am glad though because I am really learning a lot. I was really nervous with the blog last week, but this is easy compared to what else I have had to do!!! This week I created a Wikipedia page <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabine_Free_State_Festival> and created a Wiki PLN. Although I was really uncomfortable with the Wikipedia page, I have to say it was harder for me to create a twitter account. I get onto my kids all the time because they are constantly on their phones, either Facebook or Twitter. I said I would never have a Twitter account but NOW I DO!!! I don’t know if it will be something I keep though. I guess I will have to learn to use it and see if it grows on me.
This is my first blog ever. I am taking a technology class and creating a blog is part of my assignment. I am completely out of my comfort zone. I use Facebook, but I hardly ever post. I am more of a reader of other people’s lives, so this is new for me.
This is my first semester as a grad student. I am also a wife, mother, and grandmother. I have been teaching for 7 year now, and I still love it. Hopefully I will become more comfortable with blogging and open myself up to new ideas for my classroom.
Wish me luck on my new endeavors!!!!
